(Boucle de Bois de ligorce – Wed 30th Jan 2006 – 6 km/2 hrs)
Grand Brassac is approx 4 km from La Treille and although it is a very pleasant walk I decided to drive today, the weather wasn’t that brilliant… a little overcast, dry and very chilly – about 5ºc but wrapped up it was perfect for walking. I took this photo from the top of the D1 road overlooking the village. Like I said it was a bit overcast.
Arriving in the village at approx 11.30am I parked opposite the Marie in the small car park at the side of the road, there were few people around but not many which isn’t surprising for rural village life in France… with all the shutters closed on the houses you could be forgiven for thinking that a village had been abandonded. Anyway, putting Ruben on the lead we headed towards the Church for a quick look around the village….
This is the village ‘Marie’ (town hall).
Turning right at the Marie we made our way down this narrow street that lead to the rear of the Church….
Must try to find out the names of these churches. Next time I come on one of these walks I’ll bring a note pad. These next couple of photo’s are of an under cover little square just to the side of the church where I’m guessing any village fetes are held. I’ll have to ask my friend who lives just outside the village exactly what it is?
Right, map in hand we started to try to find the start of the walk… 20 minutes later I gave up and decided to ask some workmen directions. They told me the first bourne (signpost) was behind the shop down by the ‘Lavoir’. A ‘Lavoir’ by the way is where the villagers would do their weekly washing many years ago before the age of the washing machines and the like …. every village in France will have one (I’ve recently discovered) and apparantly they are being renovated as they are now considered an ‘historical feature’. Fascinating eh, here’s a couple of photos of the’Lavoir’ at Grand Brassac…
And to finish off, just a few photo’s taken on the actual walk…
Another one done, wonder where I’ll end up next?
