Visit to the Musée Trompe-l’œil, Perigueux

I’ve just been updating my last post ‘The Perigueux Walk’ and whilst researching information regarding a strange building near the River l’Isle (the Vieille Moulin) I    came across an interesting website that mentions the Museum ‘Trompe-l’Oeil‘ (literal translation ‘to fool the eye’) in Perigueux.  I believe it’s an art museum with a difference.

It sounds fascinating and when I mentioned it to Jeff that it’s open on Sundays between 3pm and 6pm we decided to go and visit.

So, even though it’s a beautiful day today, 35ºC and just the odd whispy cloud we went to investigate.  I’ll report back later with hopefully some interesting pictures.

Arrived back from the Musée at about 5.30pm and we’re just finishing the day with a couple of glasses of rosé wine after a small BBQ for just the 2 of us.  The visit was very interesting and only took about an hour to go around the small museum with a very friendly guide. The guides’ name was Anne-Marie Cherrier who is actually the founder and directrice of the Museum – she gave a very informative narrative in both French and English of some of the more interesting exhibits and there was even a quick demo of the various techniques in the workshop studio… well worth the 5 euros admission charge.

The only photo I have is of the sign on the outside of the building as unfortunately like most museums we were not allowed to take photo’s inside so you’ll have to make do with the link to their website or better still go along to see the bizarre paintings for yourselves!
